Reaching out for help isn’t always easy, and it’s natural to have questions along the way. Many people come to us with biblical counseling questions wondering what biblical counseling is, what a session looks like, or whether this is the right step for you, we hope this page provides clarity and encouragement. Our aim is to walk alongside you with care, offering hope and help grounded in God’s Word.
Below are some of the most common biblical counseling questions we receive.
Answer:
Biblical counseling is the ministry of applying God’s Word to life’s struggles in order to help people grow in Christ. It views Scripture as the ultimate authority and sufficient guide for understanding people, their problems, and the path toward change and hope.
Biblical counseling seeks heart change through the gospel, helping people respond to both suffering and sin in ways that glorify God and lead to spiritual growth.
“When I tried to understand all this, it troubled me deeply till I entered the sanctuary of God.” Psalm 75:16-17
Biblical counseling differs from secular therapy in that it is grounded in Scripture as the final authority for understanding people, their struggles, and the path toward change.
At BCM, we trust God’s Word to define both the problem and the path forward (2 Timothy 3:16–17). We care deeply about the heart—how we respond to both sin and suffering—and seek to walk with you in the lifelong process of sanctification. Rather than offering quick fixes, our desire is to help you experience lasting transformation in Jesus Christ.
Scripture shapes everything we do. We look to God’s Word to bring clarity, comfort, and direction, helping uncover the root of struggles and guiding you toward real and enduring change.
BCM is not a licensed counseling agency, and our counselors are not medically or psychologically trained therapists. Rather, they have received extensive training in biblical counseling and have been—or are in the process of being—certified through nationally recognized biblical counseling organizations. When appropriate, we are glad to encourage individuals to seek additional medical care alongside biblical counseling.
Because Scripture speaks to the human heart and the realities of suffering and sin, biblical counseling aims to help people respond to any life circumstance in a God-honoring way.
At BCM we address a wide range of struggles including but not limited to:
If you’re wondering whether we can help with a particular situation, we invite you to reach out. We would be glad to listen and help you think through whether biblical counseling would be a good fit.
Yes, counseling conversations are generally kept confidential. However, confidentiality may be limited in certain situations, such as when there is risk of harm to the individual or others, or when required by law.
We consider all our counseling to be an extension of the ministry of the local church and a way of serving and promoting its ministry; therefore we may also involve church leadership for pastoral care and accountability if/when appropriate.
BCM provides counseling free of charge. We do not accept insurance.
We are able to offer counseling at no cost because our counselors volunteer their time and because of the generous support of those who give to this ministry.
While there is no fee for counseling, donations are welcomed and appreciated as you are able. These gifts help us continue offering care to others and expand the reach of this ministry. However, giving is entirely voluntary and is never required to receive counseling.
Financial concerns should never prevent someone from receiving care.

Our biblical counselors are believers in Jesus Christ who are trained to apply Scripture to personal and relational struggles. Most have received training and certification through biblical counseling organizations such as ACBC or IABC and are committed to doctrinal soundness and godly character.
Our counseling team includes pastors and lay counselors who serve with care and humility. Above all, our counselors know Christ personally and understand what it means to seek help in times of need. They bring the compassion, wisdom, and hope they have found in Him into their care for others.
Our counselors also serve under the oversight of church leadership and pursue ongoing growth in biblical counseling.
Counseling sessions involve listening carefully to your story, exploring how Scripture speaks to your situation, prayer, and practical guidance for applying biblical truth to life.
We begin with deep listening—seeking to understand both your outer story (what is happening in your circumstances) and your inner story (what is happening in your heart). You are not analyzed or treated like a case, but cared for as a person made in God’s image.
Together, we turn to God’s Word for comfort, clarity, and direction. Through biblical counsel, practical growth assignments, and ongoing support, we pursue meaningful heart change in Christ.
Along the way, we seek to encourage you and celebrate the steps of growth God is working in your life. You are not just another appointment—you are someone God loves, and we are here to walk with you in your time of need.
The length of counseling varies depending on the situation and the individual’s needs. Some concerns may be addressed in just a few sessions, while more complex struggles may involve ongoing counseling over several months. Our goal is not simply short-term relief, but meaningful and lasting spiritual growth and transformation.
We understand the desire for quick change. Many of us have longed for God to take the pain away immediately. Yet often, He is doing something deeper—drawing us to see ourselves and our circumstances in light of a living relationship with Jesus, within the care of His church.
As one counselee shared, “Of course I wanted God to fix everything instantly… But through biblical counseling, I sensed Him inviting me to something deeper—to want Him more than the healing itself.”
No. We welcome anyone who is seeking help, regardless of their beliefs.
At the same time, all of our counseling is grounded in a biblical worldview. This means that Scripture will guide our understanding of life’s struggles and the direction we take in counseling. Our goal is to offer care and hope rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our counselors are not infallible, but they are thoughtfully trained to apply God’s Word to real-life situations. They seek to distinguish clearly between biblical truth and personal wisdom, and they are committed to serving with humility, care, and integrity.
